Within The Grassy Valley (2021)

BY Dan Drizlikh

An elegant tribal song created using Kontakt via FL Studio. Its main influence is the tranquil ambience of the forests at night as well as tracks from an old video game named Unreal. The main string harmony was also inspired by some of my warmup chords on the piano.

A wind symphony piece composed using layers of hierarchy. This is an older version of the work before extending its length and adding more instrumentation. Higher-archy evokes a royal mood with its rich harmonies.

Sagrir (2021)

BY Dan Drizlikh

Sagrir is a work for violin, cello, and piano that expresses solemnity of a rainy day and hints a feeling of relaxation upon watching the steady rain outside. Its name comes from the Hebrew word “sagrir” that describes a cold, dark, and overcast rainy weather. The piece takes on the perspective of one who watches the rain from the security of their home. This work aims to capture the emotions with repetitive motifs and fluctuating contour, as the strength of the rain varies time and again.

Composing Sagrir made me reminisce about a rainy day, watching dark overcast clouds leading to a steady rainfall that changes from time to time. There is a sense of repetition in the harmonies, and for me, it is relaxing, fascinating, and hypnotic-sounding. Sagrir creates the imagery of watching overcast clouds covering the sky, waiting for the raindrops to fall as they gradually increase in force and encompass much of the place.

Desperate Mishaps (2021)

BY Dan Drizlikh

A fixed media piece using a set of sound effects in a rhythmic manner, using the silent film One Week, courtesy of Buster Keaton. In certain parts of the film’s wacky nature, various sounds are used to let the humor flow. The sounds of construction and comedic impact sounds add a series of clownish effects to the silent film. Prepare yourselves for a crazy sound experience.
